Overview
Slam Dunk is a basketball manga series written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue, serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1990 to 1996. The anime adaptation aired from 1993 to 1996. The story follows Hanamichi Sakuragi, a delinquent who joins Shohoku High School's basketball team to impress a girl, and gradually falls in love with the sport itself.
The Kamakura-Enoshima Connection
The fictional town in Slam Dunk is directly modeled on the Kamakura-Enoshima area in Kanagawa Prefecture. The Kamakurakōkōmae Station on the Enoden line is instantly recognizable as the setting for one of anime's most iconic scenes.
The Iconic Railway Crossing
The railway crossing near Kamakurakōkōmae Station, where Sakuragi waves to Haruko with the ocean behind him, has become one of the most famous anime pilgrimage spots in Japan. Despite being a simple crossing, it draws thousands of visitors daily, particularly from East Asia.
THE FIRST SLAM DUNK (2022)
The 2022 film, directed by Takehiko Inoue himself, reignited global interest in the series. It became a massive hit across Asia and brought a new generation of fans to the Enoshima coastline.
Visiting the Slam Dunk Locations
All major Slam Dunk locations are accessible via the Enoden line from Kamakura or Fujisawa stations. A one-day Enoden pass (¥800) covers unlimited rides and lets you hop between spots at your own pace.
